Quality, Efficiency, Practicality
I bought the 552 dumbbells when they first came out and I never regretted it. When I saw the 1090s, I immediately sold the 552s near retail and purchased the 1090s.
I had never considered myself to be strong with dumbbells. I worked out with decent weight using barbells, but I probably never did more than 60 lb dumbbells on incline dumbbell press before I bought the 1090s.
Within six weeks I was doing eight reps with 90s. I went into a gym and my barbell bench had jumped up to 275 lbs!
I love working out at home, and I love my dumbbells. The only thing I don't like is the grip. There are sections of smooth and rough. I wish they were rough all the way around so I could grip them better, but other than that they are perfect.
BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Once again, Nautilus has made a true winner with the SelectTech line of dumbells. They cater to different types of lifters from the 220 all the way to the 1090 product lines.So far I absolutely love the Bowflex SelectTech 1090 dumbells and wouldn't trade them for anything else.
While they offer a bit to be desired in the low-end, they definitely shine when it comes to heavy lifting, which they are designed for, allowing weight lifters to have a resistance level of a tremendous 90lbs! From 5lbs to 90lbs, the Bowflex SelectTech 1090 dumbbells offer unsurpassed flexibility that will provide effective exercises for many years to come.
While the initial price tag may look expensive, it is not when you really look at it. While I would still look at other options, such as the PowerBlock Blocks, I would not hesitate to purchase the Bowflex SelectTech 1090 dumbbells.
Not only are they worth every penny, but when you look at the long-term results you may have, you can just about call them a steal.
